Advisor stayed overnight
Reported visit · July 2026
During a July 2026 award stay at InterContinental Chicago, the advisor’s IHG Platinum status was recognized with an upgrade from a standard King to a large Executive Tower King Suite on the forty-first floor. Reaching it required changing elevators on the thirty-eighth floor. The upgrade was appreciated, but the oddly shaped layout put the bed in a cramped corner, unsuitable in the advisor’s view for guests with limited mobility. Water pressure was very poor, and pillars obscured much of the expected high-floor view. A $38 property fee felt poor value for the amenities. A $20 steakhouse voucher offered as an elite welcome choice led to an argumentative checkout because redemption instructions had not been explained clearly. The disputed charge was eventually removed, but the promised emailed receipt never arrived. This was an elite-status award stay, not an IHG Destined booking. The advisor’s objection was less about the twenty dollars than the dismissive treatment. They would not place clients in that suite.
