During an October 2026 inspection, the advisor found HOTEL THE MITSUI KYOTO distinctive and refined, with a U-shaped layout around beautiful gardens. The arrival setting looked luxurious, with guests welcomed beside the garden and offered a seasonal drink. Several restaurants and a full spa, pool and wellness area were highlights of the tour. The Premier Rooms on the first floor had particularly high ceilings and felt spacious. The advisor preferred garden-facing rooms to city views, which seemed less impressive in this four-story building. The Onsen Suite stood out for honeymooners, with a separate living area and private outdoor onsen bath. A quieter Kyoto setting that still allowed exploration reinforced the recommendation. The hotel had a small event space, but the team indicated events were uncommon.

HOTEL THE MITSUI KYOTO was the advisor’s favourite of six Japanese hotels during an April 2026 trip. They loved the serene garden setting, contemporary rooms inspired by Japanese tea rooms, exceptional shower and bath, effective blackout blinds and staff who made a real effort. Meals at both restaurants impressed, especially outdoor seating overlooking the garden. The spa, steam facilities and gym were highlights; at that visit the indoor thermal bathing area was mixed-gender, allowed swimwear and welcomed tattoos. Some suites had private onsen, and connecting rooms provided family options. Nijo Castle was a short walk, but many other sights required a longer walk or taxi. The advisor noticed a predominantly American hotel clientele alongside many local restaurant guests. Marriott Bonvoy earning was available, although the experience felt distinctly individual.
