The guests enjoyed the attractive, well-kept grounds and many pools. Food was generally very good, some restaurants better than others. Their group's dedicated concierge did a good job within limited authority, and they liked the distinctive spa treatments and kind treatment staff. But their two-bedroom suite was effectively a one-bedroom suite plus a neighbouring room, connected only by leaving both doors open and closing flimsy outer doors they discovered late on day two; nobody had shown them the setup. The upgraded-tower room was clean but furnished with ageing pieces. Unannounced construction caused little disruption. They found the spa manager unfriendly and unaccommodating. Room credits were frustrating: they understood an amenity had to cost twice the credit value, but further deductions made an apparent $200 cabana credit worth about $140. The jacuzzi cabana was only a daybed with an excessively hot tub, without expected extras such as extra service, a fan, safe, drinks, charging point or better towels. The resort felt geared to quiet relaxation for an older crowd. Their group, mostly in their forties with two in their fifties, wanted that too but found nightlife and entertainment severely limited. The nightclub was poorly advertised and nearly empty on Friday and Saturday; they disliked Friday's DJ but liked Saturday's. Pool music was mostly yacht rock outside DJ sessions, with little success from newer tracks and, they recalled, no Latin music. Their private van driver got lost, adding over 45 minutes and passing the airport again, without an apology or acknowledgement when questioned; the guest wondered if language difficulties played a part. Check-in was another disappointment: little greeting, a promised welcome drink never delivered, a long wait despite few arrivals, and credit cards not taken, causing repeated problems until a further long reception visit fixed it. Their concierge could not resolve that. They also resented a compulsory introductory pitch for a talk about other properties that would unlock resort features. Staff seemed either excellent or inept. Excursions were far away, and after the van experience they avoided more driving. They enjoyed enough to recommend it to some age groups, but would not return.
