The advisor enjoyed a May 2025 anniversary stay at Alila Ventana Big Sur, particularly an upgraded, recently refreshed Vista Hot Tub Suite with high ceilings, fireplace, deck and private outdoor hot tub. Good weather made the views, pool and Japanese baths especially appealing. Leatherwork and a garden-and-chicken-coop tour added enjoyable activities. Food was generally good, but breakfast and dinner at The Sur House did not meet the expectations set by the price; the advisor also overheard other diners complain about cooking and small portions. Poolside lunch was a clear success. The inclusive stay excluded alcohol, mocktails and activities as described in the account. The other disappointment was a small, crowded gym with only one treadmill, bike and elliptical, particularly because convenient outdoor running or walking routes were limited.
