Advisor site inspection · Advisor stayed overnight

After a May 2026 stay and inspection, the advisor felt Alila Mayakoba was not yet ready for demanding luxury travelers. The refreshed neutral interiors were attractive but lacked local character. Categories ranged from lagoon-view rooms to suites with private pools, with no residences described as available. Pools, beach, gym and hydrotherapy were strengths, although repeated spa upselling after the complimentary circuit felt unnecessary. Restaurant service was slow, food average and suite-butler support unreliable. An enjoyable complimentary eco-tour required many requests, and no children’s club was available. Check-in problems, broken keys, missed housekeeping and an incorrect welcome name added frustration. Stated dietary requirements and mobility needs were not recorded. Staff reportedly damaged belongings without a meaningful resolution. An upgrade placed the advisor down a flight of stairs despite the mobility requirement, leaving the room inaccessible to them. Some accommodation was upstairs or downstairs, making ground-floor placement consequential rather than merely a preference. The advisor preferred Fairmont for a lower-priced Mayakoba stay at that time.
